  • Sensing the need to update...

Sunday afternoon, while the kids were napping (or not so much), Jenny decided David wanted to get out of the crib.  So she took it apart.  She figured out that if she removed two screws, the side panel would hinge from the top, allowing him to climb down and out.  Then she put it back together.  When I walked in to check on them, they were both down on the floor playing.  I asked her how David got out and she promptly told me "I took the screws out and he climbed out. Then I put them back in."  It was all I could do to keep a straight face and try to look upset with her.

So, the greatly anticipated transition to the "big kid's bed" has started.

Sunday night, we put both kids down in the "BKB", thinking they'd go right to sleep since they were both pretty tired (and it was an hour or so past their normal bed time).  David wasn't going for it.  He screamed and screamed - he wanted his crib.  Jenny actually did really well with having David on the opposite end of her bed.  She managed to lay still and go to sleep.  We ended up putting David back in the crib after awhile of trying to get him to be "ok" in the BKB.

Monday night, we tried again with putting David in the BKB.  This time, Jenny insisted that he sleep on the same end as her, so we laid them down next to each other.  Once again, she did really well with staying in bed.  He, on the other hand, decided to "trash" the room (empty the dirty clothes basket and shoe basket).  A few tries later, they were both asleep (with no protest from David this time) in the BKB.  And, they both managed to stay in the BKB all night!

In other news, I think I put a few albums on FB that I forgot to put on here, so here are a few links to my recent FB albums: Random Photos & Birthdays and More.   And check here for  new videos on YouTube of Jenny "performing" & David playing "ball".

  • It's going to be a yearly tradition...

We definitely enjoyed our time away this past weekend.  We headed up to Shipshewana, just over an hour away, to Splash Universe.

They have a very nice resort, complete with Clear Spring Restaurant (owned by Blue Gate, for those of you who know it), a kid-friendly waterpark, arcade, workout facility, and more.  We stayed in a double-queen room on Sunday night, which gave us waterpark access all day on Sunday and Monday.

We headed up to the waterpark on Sunday afternoon after church (came home to pack and change before grabbing lunch at McDonald's on our way up), and arrived at the resort just before 3pm.  Our room was ready, so we headed up to get changed, watch the end of the Michigan basketball game against UConn, and then headed down to the waterpark.

Jenny LOVED the little kids' play area, complete with mini-waterslides.  David wouldn't let go of Mommy, burying his head in her shoulder most of the time we were in the waterpark (then having SO much energy the second we left).  David and Mommy rode on the lazy river quite a bit, while Daddy and Jenny played in the water.  Daddy got to go on the two "big" slides, too.

After a couple of hours of playing, we headed back upstairs to change and go to dinner.  The restaurant had a buffet style meal of Amish home cooking - SOOOO yummy!  After dinner, we were all pretty tired, so we decided to call it a night and hit the sack.

We put the kids in bed just before 7pm, thinking they would fall asleep pretty quickly.  Not so much.  They both finally conked out about 9:45pm.  Daddy and Mommy were watching 24, so we didn't fall asleep til almost 11pm (though Mommy fell asleep during the second hour of 24).

Monday morning, we got up and went back downstairs to the restaurant for breakfast - another Amish homecooking buffet style meal.  Then we decided to go ahead and check out before heading to the waterpark, since we had to check out before 11am.  Daddy put the stuff in the car while Mommy got the kids ready to go play.

Mommy got to go down some of the "big kid" slides (that was as much thrill as she wanted) and convinced Jenny to go down a few of them with her.  David finally decided that it was okay to play in the water about the time that Daddy came back from the car with the stuff to change and head home.  Crazy boy!

We got home around lunchtime, though nobody ended up eating due to being sooo tired.  Jenny & David both fell asleep on the way home, and Mommy crashed after unpacking the car.  Daddy, being the awesome daddy he is, did two loads of laundry (washed, dried, folded) and the dishes while the rest of us slept til 4:30ish.

We decided that we're going to try to make it a yearly tradition.
